The Social Media Committee for SMPS National Build Business Conference is looking for members’ inspiration to both promote Build Business via social media, as well as create a really cool video project to run throughout the conference.

The committee is creating videos made up of a collection of photographic images of SMPS members, and their dreams, in any setting of their choosing. The video that is created will loop periodically throughout conference with differing lengths.

Here’s the scoop, it’s this easy:

Take a photo of yourself and tell us your dream!

The photo can be in any setting you wish, or photoshop the destination of your dreams in the background, and add a word bubble stating your dream. The dream could be for yourself, your firm, your family, your SMPS Chapter, anything at all that you dream about. If you choose to complete the whole image, thought bubble and all, perfect! But if you are challenged in the graphic arts, like a lot of us, when you send the photo in, explain the background you want or leave the background alone, and we’ll add the word bubble with your dream statement.

A recent example was a member with the image of the Leaning Tower of Pisa in the background (using Photoshop). Their word bubble said: “I dream of finding marketing inspiration while traveling through Italy”

Here are the instructions of what to do and where to send it. http://www.buildbusiness.org/attachments/0003/4776/video_instructions.pdf

Inspired by: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_r5gBPM2SuA&list=PLB77DF7E51C8E2D54

And of course, make sure you’re tweeting or following all the great tweets from Conference July 31-August 2.

#smps2013 – for all conference information and promotions #smps2013dreams – for inspirational quotes and sharing dreams

See you in Orlando this summer!

Our 2013 EMA Awards Event was hosted at Cannon Design on May 9, and good times were had by all! … see our chapter’s Flickr page for photos from this event.

At this event, the stars of the AEC industry came out to see who would be the first ever SMPS Chicago Excellence in Marketing Awards winners. Held in Cannon Design’s innovative office space, the inaugural EMA Cocktail Reception was a resounding success.

Guest mingled, enjoyed cocktails and snacked on appetizers as they excitedly awaited the announcement of the night’s big winners. President Kate Mullaney did the honors of presenting the awards to the EMA winners, who also received a registration for the upcoming Heartland Regional Conference.

For External Marketing, the EMA went to Wiss Janney Elstner for their Book/Monograph, The WJE Perspective. As one judge noted, the book was a “striking, beautiful work.” “A great concept. I could look at this for hours,” added another judge of the gift for employees and clients that showcases the best photography submitted as part of an annual employee photo contest.

For Internal Marketing, the EMA was awarded to Pepper Construction for their Special Event, Health Wellness Week. Described by the judges as “excellent internal marketing for HR and strengthening of company culture,” the Health Wellness event sought to introduce and publicize the newly created Pepper Illinois Wellness Committee and its mission to promote a worksite culture supporting healthy lifestyle choices.

The event would not have been possible without the generous contributions of our sponsors. Thank you to the following companies for their support:

Pepper Group

Bob Elmore Photography

Astek

Multivista

Davey Resource Group

Cushing, in-kind sponsor for all signage

Cannon Design, event host

A note of thanks also goes to the Executive Advisory Panel who graciously donated their time to serve as the judging panel for the EMAs. Their participation provided all nominees with expert feedback on their marketing materials.

And last but certainly not least, thank you to all SMPS Chicago members for supporting the EMAs and making this a spectacular inaugural event. And don’t forget it’s never too early to start planning your 2014 EMA entry!

Thanks to Brooke Beckner (www.benesch.com) and Bob Elmore Photography for photographing this event!
