Meals from the Heart

On September 11, SMPS Chicago volunteers came together to organize and cook dinner for children and their families at the Ronald McDonald House near Lurie Children’s Hospital. Many families travel far from home and spend several weeks or months at a time in Chicago while their seriously ill or injured children receive treatment. For children facing a serious medical crisis, nothing seems scarier than not having mom and dad close by for love and support. Ronald McDonald House near Lurie Children’s Hospital provides a place for families to call home so they can stay close by their hospitalized child at little to no cost. Through the Meals from the Heart program, volunteers such as SMPS Chicago, help provide some comfort and relief to families during their stay. Members of the SMPS Chicago Board and Executive Advisory Panel prepared the meal. SMPS Chicago has participated in the Meals from the Heart program for several years.
