What makes a strong culture? It’s not as simple as many business blogs would suggest. Successful corporate culture is not a mission statement on the wall or merely defined by the work environment you create. Fads like installing a ping pong table, open creative space, or free craft beer is not what makes a great corporate culture. Today, leaders need to provide so much more to create a culture that engages their workforce – they need to have the right attitude and do the right things to ensure their culture is the right one for the given business environment.

In a recent survey, Dale Carnegie examined the perceptions of senior leaders as they relate to the strength of their own company cultures, beliefs about its importance and impact, and actions they are taking to improve it. We identified Culture Champions, companies who successfully create cultures that engage employees, and uncovered the attitudes and behaviors that set them apart from the others.

BEE ELIGIBILITY

Senior marketing and business development professionals with 10 years or more experience in the A/E/C industry and currently holding a Business Development or Marketing Director/Manager position within their firm are welcome to join the series. These sessions are geared towards those with experience managing business development, marketing budgets, firm procedures and operations with a direct staff and internal resources.

Karen Kimsey-Sward, Chief Operating Officer, Dale Carnegie of Chicago & NW Indiana

Karen has over 25 years of experience working with a wide range of organizations helping them to move to the “next level” of performance. She’s known for her strategic yet practical approach to working with leaders at all levels to drive revenue growth, operational excellence and employee engagement. Karen brings a unique perspective to clients as a business owner who has been through all stages of a company’s life: from its founding through the various levels of growth.

Previously, Karen was a Vice President of Franchising with Dale Carnegie & Associates and worked with franchisees in all areas of their business. She provided leadership in North America to identify opportunities, developed growth plans, recruited top talent, and executed marketing/sales strategies and training. She and her team served as internal business coaches to franchisees.

Prior to joining Dale Carnegie & Associates, Karen was co-founder and principal of Performance Potential Inc, a management consulting firm. She worked extensively with a wide variety of organizations helping them integrate their strategy, processes and skills to improve their performance. Karen’s practical, results-oriented approach, coupled with her real-world experience brought her clients significant value and results.

In addition, she is an accomplished speaker and a published writer. Over the years Karen has lectured at numerous national and international symposiums and conferences. Her areas of focus include: Creating Fully Engaged Employees, Building Great Leaders, Driving Business Results, and Women in Leadership.

She has served in several leadership roles at Christ Church of Oak Brook including Board of Trustee and Board of Elders.

Karen received her Bachelor of Business Administration/Marketing from Marshall University.
